Recently, PDF has been accepted as a standard document format under the cross platform environment. According to CNET, "HP will start including PDF products in the spring of 2002". This will increase the momentum for the idea of using PDF- everywhere you look.
Making an English PDF is just breeze if you have a copy of Acrobat. However, authoring Japanese documents in an English OS is not known and even the manual for Acrobat says that it is impossible to make a Japanese PDF file using PDFWriter on an English OS (Page 3, Getting Started Guide for Adobe Acrobat 4.0)
Ever since MS released Windows 2000, the entire concept of a multilingual computer environment has changed. Ordinary users have not yet realized the power of Windows 2000. Actually, MS did really good homework on Windows 2000. They maintain only one binary code for all localized versions of Windows 2000. With the help of the English version of Acrobat version 4.0, you can also make Japanese PDF files.
This means that if you already have an English Version of Acrobat, you do not need to purchase another copy of the Japanese Version. There are people out making a profit out of this gray zone of Japanese computing. You can think of it this way; you can do virtually everything in English OS that you can do in Japanese OS with little engineering effort (some tech people like myself call it "Hacking" ... I mean not "Cracking").
