Abstract:
A new course that focuses on the impact of evolving communication technologies on business
is described. Two core
questions are addressed in the class: 1. How does a manager or employee choose the
appropriate channel for a given
communication situation? 2. How does an organization choose which technologies are
appropriate for its business needs?
In the course, the questions are answered by examining strategic models, assessing specific
technologies and presenting
case studies. The underlying message of the course is that new technology does not
necessarily equal better
communication. Effectiveness not only requires mastering how a technology works but also
understanding when to use it.
