Abstract:
As trade boundaries fall and global markets emerge, companies need to find new ways to
remain competitive and
maintain or increase market share. Forward-thinking companies are adopting electronic
commerce to streamline business
procedures and improve communication with business partners, suppliers and customers.
Electronic commerce means
many things: E-mail, electronic data interchange, electronic funds transfer, debit cards, smart
cards, bar coding, imaging,
interactive voice response and workflow software. Different organizations are taking advantage
of some to all of these to
save money, improve customer service, streamline their organization, and compete. Electronic
data interchange (EDI),
the cornerstone for much electronic commerce, is finally coming of age. No longer the
preserve of retail titans, it is
beginning to touch all industries. The issue is
discussed in detail.
