The Dept. of Korean Language & Literature aims at creatively inheriting and developing the culture of Korea by studying its language and literature. To achieve this, the Language dept. focuses on the structure and history of the language while the Literature dept. studies literature of past and present generations with the reflection of time and social backgrounds.

The lives of people and language have developed with time and the literature has reflected their spirit and progression. It can be said that the dept. of Korean language and literature stands at the core of humanities. Hence, the undergraduate students develop a basic understanding of the 3 main streams viz. Korean Language, Korean Classical Literature and Korean Modern Literature.

After graduation students either continue with their studies or find employment. Traditionally, the Graduate students from our dept. join areas like Mass media or Journalism (Reporter, Producer, and Scriptwriter etc.), Academics (Elementary/High school teacher), Literary World (Novelist, Poet, Critic), Advertisement (Copywriter), or Finance (Bank, Security company). But nowadays areas like Information & Communications (Internet Multimedia, etc.) also promise vibrant futures for students.

Graduate School students who finish their Master course either find employment or apply for our PhD program. Most Graduate students with PhD degrees either teach at universities or work at research institutes associated with Dept. of Korean language and literature.
The lessons of life and training received at the Dept. of Korean language and literature helps to have a better understanding and love for the greater mankind. We believe that creativity of thought and power of dreams with wisdom will be our tool for success in 21 st century.
